Bastion Santiago is one of three bastions that protect the southern flank of Dalt Vila (Upper Town) in Ibiza (Eivissa) town. In past times the fortress played an important part in protecting the island of Ibiza from attack and providing refuge to the townspeople. Dalt Vila is in an excellent defensive position, and has been occupied since the 6th century BC when the Phoenicians moved here from their settlement in sa Caleta. Ancient remains can be seen in the Museum of Archaeology on Cathedral Square near the top of Dalt Vila.

The walls and bastions are from the 16th century, the Renaissance period. Along the walls are seven bastions, starting with Bastion Puerta Nova to the west at one of the 5 entrances to the fortress. Clockwise the others are Bastion Sant Juan (north wall), Bastion Santa Luca, Bastion Santa Tecla, Bastion San Bernardo, another Bastion San Juan on the southern wall, and Bastion Santiago shown here.

Dalt Vila was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is a popular tourist attraction, full of boutique shops, cafes, museums and old buildings along narrow, cobbled lanes.
