Dubrovnok Harbour from St. John's Fort - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This view of the old harbour at Dubrovnik was taken from the corner of St.John's Fort, overlooking the main entrance. On the opposite side of the harbour is Fort Revelin.
The blue ferry boat makes regular trips to and from the nearby island of Lokrum, and also transfers passengers ashore from luxury cruise liners that anchor outside in deeper water.

St. John Fortress (Sveti Ivan) was built to protect the Old City port of Dubrovnik. Also known as 'Mulo Tower', it was first built in the 1300's but modified extensively during the 15th and 16th centuries. The fort is a monumental complex, protecting against pirate raids and sea attack. As part of the defence, large chains running between St John Fortress and Kase jetty would be raised to block the harbour entrance. The port entrances of the Great Arsenal were also bricked up at times.
Today, St John's Fortress is one of the tourist attractions within Dubrovnik, with the Maritime museum on the 1st and 2nd floor and an aquarium on the ground floor. It is one of three fortresses within the city walls, the others being Minčeta Tower and Fort Bokar.
