Panorama of the Masjid Abdul Gaffoor Mosque (Abdul Gaffoor Mosque) in Singapore. The first Masjid Abdul Gaffoor Mosque was built in 1846 to serve the needs of the Indian Muslim community living in a part of Singapore known as Kampong Glam. This area is now known as 'Little India'.
The mosque is surrounded in part by a series of shops and sheds. These were put in place between 1887 and 1903. They form a clourful border to the compound and rental from these helps fund building a new mosque.
The current mosque began being built in 1907, and was not completed until sometime after 1927. The remaining 'shops' are now used for Qur'an classes, Islamic studies and other community activities.
Both the inside of the mosque and outside are decorated, with minarets adorning the hexagonal cupola, topped with crescent moons and stars.
