Oeiras Beach - FURTHER INFORMATION
Oeiras Beach - Oeiras visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Oeiras Beach' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Distrito Lisboa.
Paço de Arcos is named after the Palace of the Arches found at the eastern entrance to entrance to the village, which lies between Lisbon and Estoril, just outside Oeiras on the northern side of the Tagus River estuary. Paco de Arcos is a good base from which to explore Lisbon, but far enough from the city centre to give quick access to the surrounding area. The hotels here are often cheaper than hotels in Estoril, and the beach and bay quite relaxed.
The coastline is lined with hotels and holiday apartments catering for all budgets. The beach is very popular and the bay dotted with small pleasure boats and sailing yachts. Paço de Arcos is also home to Quinta da Fonte, one of the largest business parks in Europe with international companies such as General Electric, Nokia, Hewlett Packard and Intel having European bases here.
In the past it is said that King D.Manuel I of Portugal watched caravel ships of Vasco da Gama depart from here bound for India. Aside from the beach, other local attractions include the Queluz National Palace, a former palace of Portuguese Monarchy surrounded by Baroque gardens. Further afield in the Oeiras district is the 18th century estate and palace of Marques de Pombal. Various other beaches line the Estoril Coast and in Estoril is a large casino. The area boasts numerous golf courses.
