The Queen's House in Greenwich is part of the National Maritime Museum (NMM), containing many of the finest works of art in the museum's collection. Built between 1614-1617 for Anne of Denmark, the queen of King James I of England, the first classical building of it's kind in Britain. It is a Grade 1 listed building and part of the UNESCO Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site along wit the NMM and Royal Observatory. Highlights within the house include:

  • Paintings- various paintings by Gainsborough, Lely, Hogarth, Reynolds, Hodges and the van de Veldes, considered the best in the NMM collections.
  • Great Hall - huge perfect cube (40 x 40 ft) that rising through the centre of the House's north side.
  • Tulip Stairs - the first geometric self-supporting spiral stair in Britain.
The house is a popular venue for private functions and visitors are advised to see their website for closure details. Queen's House is scheduled to be used as a VIP centre for the 2012 London Olympic games.
