Greenwich Market - FURTHER INFORMATION

Greenwich Market - London visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Greenwich Market' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Greater London.

Greenwich Market is a popular tourist attraction in Greenwich, southeast London, especially at the weekends when the market is full of varied stalls selling all kinds of goods, clothing, crafts and jewellery. As shown in this picture, the market is in a covered area, under a clear roof so lit by natural light. A visit to the market forms an essential part to a day out in Greenwich.

Greenwich has had a regular market since the 14th century, the market on the current Island Site dates from the 1700's. Currently the market is managed by Greenwich Space Management Ltd, who employ a 'Creative Priority System' to ensure that the goods on sale are not easily obtained elsewhere and are manufactured to ethical standards showing creative originality.

Around Greenwich market are numerous permanent shops, restaurants and popular bars. The Greenwich Market site is owned by Greenwich Hospital, who are considering developing the site. This has received some local opposition who fear the introduction of bland high-street chain stores robbing Greenwich of a vital attraction.

Greenwich Market is very close to the Cutty Sark, and lies between Greenwich station and the National Maritime Museum (NMM), Queen's House and Royal Observatory in Greenwhich Park, which together form the Maritime World Heritage Site.
