The Design Museum in London is just down from Tower Bridge, next to the River Thames opposite St Katharine's Dock. The museum was founded in 1989 and claims to be the first museum dedicated to modern design, covering product, industrial, graphic, fashion and architectural design. It occupies a former banana warehouse on Butlers Wharf with exhibits shown on 2 floors within the museum and also the Design Museum Tank space out front.
Each year the Design Museum holds the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year, rewarding the most innovative, interesting and forward looking designs in seven categories of Architecture, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Interactive, Product and Transport design. All shortlisted designs are temporarily exhibited within the Design Museum during the competition.
The Design Museum is open daily, entrance fees apply.
