The Cobb - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
The harbour wall in Lyme Regis known as The Cobb, was made famous when it featured in the film 'The French Lieutenant's Woman, and more recently in the TV adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'.
It was here that Louisa Musgrove fell down the steps in Persuasion, and where Meryl Streep stood in 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'.
The reason for the unusual curvature of the Cobb is to help deflect the enormous power of the waves which have almost destroyed the wall on many occasions over the centuries.
