Restauradores Square - FURTHER INFORMATION

Restauradores Square (Praça dos Restauradores) in Lisbon is at the southern end of Avenida da Liberdade, just above the train station of Rossio (also an architectural masterpiece not to be missed!). This is one of the busiest areas of Lisbon and the place where you can admire the newly renovated Eden Orion, once a theater and now a hotel that has kept the charming original facade.
The square is easily recognizable, containing an Obelisk and a sculpture commemorating the 1640 restoration of the Independence of Portugal from Spain after 60 years Spanish rule.
The square is surrounded by many architecturally interesting buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries, like the Palacio Foz, Orion Eden Hotel, the small bandstand, the Avenida Palace Hotel.
Nearby is the Hardrock Cafe, which occupies the old, modernist style, Condes Cinema built in the 1950's, and which has become a tourist attraction. Restauradores Square also gives access to the Gloria Elevator, a funicular linking downtown Lisbon with Bairro Alto district. Trains from the recently refurbished Rossio Central take tourists to visit Sintra, a World Heritage Site.
