Ao Patong is just north of, and on the same bay as, Patong and Patong Beach on the western coast of Phuket. Just north of the village is Kalim Beach, which is much less developed and not as good as Patong Beach itself. Most of the hotels in the area are found south of Ao Patong, in the heart of Patong.

The main road up the western side of Phuket winds along the seafront of Ao Patong before rising up into the hills to the north and crossing a headland to Ao Kamala Beach and Laem Sing Beach.

Car: Patong is about 30km south of Phuket International Airport. Transit times of about 45 minutes. There is parking along the beach, but spaces are limited.
Bus: Regular buses connect with Phuket Town, from where there are buses to the rest of Thailand.
