Prom Thep Cape (Laem Phrom Thep), at the southernmost tip of Phuket, is most popular for the stunning sunsets and the Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse perched on the top of the cape overlooking Kho Man island. Tracks descend Prom Thep Cape to Prom Thep Point.
The Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse is open to the public and contains a small museum. Nearby is a monument to monument to the Prince of Jumborn, the 28th son of Rama 5th. Travelling to England in the late 19th century to join the Navy, he returned to Phuket 6 years later, aged 21, and built the first naval base on the island.
As this image shows, also on the cape is a Buddhist shrine containing thousands of elephants of all sizes. Visitors may by incense to offer to the elephants if so desired, shoes must be removed before entering the circle of the shrine.
Prom Thep Cape car park contains a number of stalls selling various tourist goods. The nearest village is Rawai and the nearest beach is Rawai Beach
