Kamala Beach is one of the best beaches in Phuket. The beach remains relatively under developed, and is much more relaxing than Patong Beach to the south. Kamala was a Muslim fishing village, developing in recent years to cater for tourism with a few budget and luxury hotels. The number of bars and restaurants has also increased.

The north and central sections of Kamala beach are good for swimming. The sandy shores are lined with sun loungers for rent. The beach is relatively quiet, with only the occasional jet ski disturbing the peace, again much more relaxing than at Patong. Right at the southern end of Kamala beach a small river empties around the sea. The floor here is rocky and covered in sea-weed. Most of Kamala's fishing vessels moor at this southern end.

Nearby to the north are Laem Sing Beach, Surin Beach and Pansea Beach.
