Khao Phra Thaeo National Park covers 22km² of virgin rainforest on the nothern end of . Here, away from the crowds and hotels of the beaches, you will find tranquillity and quiet, broken only by the natural sounds of tropical forest. It is a protected area with a diverse wildlife including tusked hairy wild boar, malay sun bear (almost disappeared), slow lorises, langurs, porcupines, deer (including the barking deer and the mouse deer), palm civets, monkeys, gibbons, cobras, pythons, monitor lizards, flying foxes, squirrels and many species of birds. There are several hills in the park, the highest of which are Khao Prathiu (384 m), Khao Bang Pae (388 m) and Khao Phara (422 m).

Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife park has some trekking trails, and contains both Bang Bae Waterfall and Ton Sai Waterfall, both of which have become tourist attractions. An 8km trail links the two waterfalls. The park also contains a museum, information centre and floating restaurant.

Near to Bang Bae is the Gibbon Rehabiliation Project, which, run by volunteers, rescues abandoned gibbons for rehabilitation an release into the wild, and is well worth visiting and supporting. Near to the eastern edge of the park is an Elephant Village offering elephant trekking rides.

The best time to visit is May through October, when the jungle of Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife park is in bloom.

Car: Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park is about 22km north of Phuket town, and 25km from [[4858,Patong]]. It is about 10km east of [[4890,Laguna Phuket Resort]].
