Oxford Street is one of the main shopping areas in London and many highstreet brands and chains have flagship stores here. Every hear there is a large celebrity event when the lights along Oxford Street are first turned on.Most shops on Oxford Street will open 7 days a week. During the Christmas season, the street can get so busy that the pavements become one-way walking routes, much like the road, with designated crossing points. The only time when Oxford Street is more crazy is at the beginning of the Boxing Day and New Years sales.
The theme for the 2009 Oxford Street Christmas lights was 'A Christmas Carol'.
