Wattle Point Windfarm - Edithburgh visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Wattle Point Windfarm' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from South Australia.
Wattle Point Wind Farm was, at the time of opening in 2005, the largest windfarm in Australia. Standing southeast of Edithburgh on the Yorke Peninsula in South Ausltralia, the wind farm's 55 Vestas V82 wind turbines cover 11.5 square kilometres of land, and can be clearly seen on the satellite view of the Google map of Edithburgh. It has become one of the local tourist attractions to Edithburgh, with a public viewing area and display almost directly under one of the turbines on Sheaok Beach Road.
Each tower at Wattle Point is 67m high and the blades are 40m long, giving a total maximum height to the tip of a blade of 110m. The 55 wind turbines can generate enough power for around 52,000 homes, providing about 2% of the current electricity needs of South Australia. Power from Wattle Point is fed directly into Electranet's 132 kV main transmission system and then onto the national electricity grid. It is managed by Southern Hydro & Wind Farm Developments.
