The Water of Leith, a 24 mile long river, finishes it's journey through Edinburgh emptying into the Firth of Forth through Prince of Wales Dock and Edinburgh Harbour. Edinburgh Harbour is home to the Royal Yacht Britannia tourist attraction and Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre. There are plans to redevelop much of the area. Nearby points of interest include Shore (lined with shops, restaurants and galleries), Customs Wharf and Commercial Quay.
The river rises in Colzium Springs at Millstone Rig of the Pentland Hills, flowing through several villages en route. 12.5 miles of the river are accessible along the Water of Leith Walkway from Balerno to Leith. This has become a haven for wildlife and is a popular trail for visitors and locals alike.
Within Edinburgh, the Water of Leith passes through Dean and under Dean Bridge, which was built in 1832. The area played an important part in the past as the center of the milling trade, with 11 water mills run by the 'Incorporation of Baxters' (Bakers Guild).
