Cala Santandria

Cala Santandria

This panorama is from Cala Santandria (Cala Santandría) on the far Western edge of Menorca. Cala Santandria is about 3km south of Cuitadella.

Cala Santandria used to be a small fishing village, but now has been almost totally overtaken by the hotel and tourism industry. So extensive is the development along this part of Menorca, that the cala has effectively merged with Cala Blanca and Sa Caleta to form one area of hotels, beach resorts, apartments and holiday villas.

This area is very popular with holiday makers, with great beaches which, because of the large number of hotel resorts, are well provided for in terms of facilities. The area is good for sailing and snorkeling.

The cove of Cala Santandria is very long and narrow, terminating in a sandy beach. This offers good protection from rough seas unless the waves enter directly into the cove. There is a secondary small beach part way along the inlet towards the sea, near to Es Castellar, the tower at the entrance to the inlet.

It is worth noting that, at high season, Cala Santandria can get very busy as it is so close to Cuitadella.

To get to Cala Santandria take the PM-721 south from Cuitadella. From Mahon, take the C-721 along the middle of the Menorca to Cuitadella and then the PM-721. Cala Blanca lies just a little further south of Cala Santandria. The PM-721 continues down the island until Cap d'Artruxt and Son Xoriguer.
