Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh dates from the late 17th Century. Standing in Canongate, on the the lower part of the Royal Mile, this Congregational church and associated graveyard serve the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Scottish Parliament, as well as Edinburgh Castle, though this is outside the parish. It is one of the tourist attractions on the Royal Mile.

Canongate Kirk is a military church. Inside are various regimental Standards and Colours - Colours of the King's Own Scottish Borderers and the 'Dandy Ninth' and the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment). In the 1970s, Canongate became run down and the church was threatened with closure. Today the area is thriving once again. The church is next to The People's Story (the old ) and opposite the Museum of Edinburgh.

Canongate Kirk and and associated graveyard are clearly visible from the South Viewpoint on the top of Carlton Hill.

Bus: Various to North Bridge and South Bridge, 35 down Canongate from South Bridge.
Walk: The museum stands on Cannongate, the lower part of the Royal Mile. It is about 10 minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle and 5 minutes from the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
