Beaulieu - FURTHER INFORMATION

Beaulieu - Beaulieu visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Beaulieu' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hampshire.

Beaulieu lies 4 miles inland alongside the Beaulieu River in Hampshire, and the tiny village is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the New Forest. Within the village itself is a selection of small shops and boutiques, a pub and hotel. What makes the village so popular is the National Motor Museum and other attractions found on the Beaulieu Estate.

Tickets to the Beaulieu Estate give visitors access to 3 main attractions, the National Motor Museum, Palace House and Beaulieu Abbey. Some attractions within the estate and surrounding area include:

  • The National Motor Museum - first opened in 1952 and has become one of the most respected collections of vehicles on earth. The collection contains over 250 vehicles, including the famous 'Bluebird' and many of the James Bond film cars.
  • Palace House - Home to the Montagu family since the mid 16th century. The house started out as a gatehouse for Beaulieu Abbey but was continually adapted and extended becoming one of the most recognised Gothic country house in England.
  • Beaulieu Abbey - ruins of the abbey founded by Cistercian monks in 1204 and destroyed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries carried out by Henry VIII. The Domus and Cloisters remain.
  • Victorian Flower Garden - beautifully laid out Victorian Gardens, best viewed in the spring when in flower.
  • Beaulieu Village - have lunch at the pub and relax by the Beaulieu River, away from the crowds.
  • Bucklers Hard - hamlet about 4 miles from Beaulieu, famous for building many traditional ships of the Fleet in Nelson's time using wood from the New Forest. Entrance fees apply unless staying at the hotel.
  • Exbury Gardens & Steam Railway - 3 miles from Beaulieu, these gardens were created by Lionel de Rothschild in the 1920s and contains a small steam train. Famous for the magnolias and azaleas flowering in spring.
The nearest Tourist Information Centre to Beaulieu is in Lymington.
