St Mary Chapel - Bucklers Hard - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama showing the interior of St Mary's Chapel at Bucklers Hard in Hampshire. The chapel is very much as it would have been during ship building days in the 17th century.

St Mary's Chapel occupies one of the cottages in Bucklers Hard, and would have served the workers here during the shipbuilding period of the 18th century. Bucklers Hard lay on a tidal stretch of the Beaulieu River, about 3 miles south of Beaulieu on the Beaulieu River with easy access to New Forest oak.
Several Ships of the Line in the English Fleet were built here, including the 'HMS Euryalus', 'HMS Swiftsure' and 'HMS Agamemnon (Admiral Nelson's favourite ship), all seeing action in the Battle of Trafalgar. The shipbuilding has long gone, and Bucklers Hard is now a tourist attraction. The chapel and nearby Shipwright's Cottage help give a glimpse back into the past.
