George IV Bridge - Edinburgh visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'George IV Bridge' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Lothian.
George IV Bridge runs south from the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, linking the attractions around Edinburgh Castle with the National Museum of Scotland and Greyfriars Kirk. The 300m long elevated street was built between 1829 and 1832 to link the growing New Town to the south with the Old Town. Only two of the supporting arches are visible, where the bridge crosses Merchant Street and Cowgate, all the other arches are hidden with the basements of the tall buildings.
At the northern end is the luxury Hotel Missoni Edinburgh Hotel.
