Canongate forms the lower part of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, which runs from Edinburgh Castle down to the Scottish Parliament Building near Holyrood Park. The Royal Mile is lined with some of the most popular tourist attractions in Edinburgh.

On Canongate visitors will find the 17th century Canongate Kirk, the Canongate Tollbooth building which houses the People's Story Museum and, opposite, the Museum of Edinburgh.
