Castell de Bellver (Castello de Bellver, Castell de Bellver) is a 14th century, circular castle on the top of Bosc de Bellver (Bellver Hill) to the west of the old town of Palma on Mallorca. It is the oldest circular castle in Europe, and the only circular castle in Spain.
Built for King James II of Mallorca, Bellver castle has been used as a military prison during the 18th and 19th centuries, and also as a civil prison by Franco after the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Today the castle contains the Museu of the Ciutat, displaying the history of the island broken into four sections of Prehistory, Roman times, Islamic era and Medieval era.
