The Palacio de la Almudaina (Almudaina Palace) stands near to La Seu (Palma Cathedral), just outside the old city walls of Palma. The citadel was built for the Moorish governors of Mallorca.
After the Spanish re-captured the island, king James II employed Pedro Salvá, the architect of Bellver Castle nearby, to convert Almudaina Palace into his summer palace. This saw the addition of four battlemented towers, a portico, an airy ogival loggia on the seaward side and a small royal chapel.
Today the Almudaina Palace houses the Harbour Offices. The building also contains numerous works of art including 16th and 17th century Flemish tapestries and 17th and 18th century Spanish tapestries. The passageway shown in this panorama runs along the side of the palace from Passeo de Dalt Murada above the Parc de la Mar to Jardins de s'Hort del Rei Gardens.
