Es Baluard is the Museum Of Modern And Contemporary Art in Palma. It stands just inside the old Renaissance city wall bulwark of Sant Pere and contains permanent exhibitions of works by Picasso, Miró, Tàpies and Barceló. Es Baluard opened in 2004 and many of the works belong to businessman Pere Serra, while others are owned by Palma Town Council, the Mallorcan Council, the Balearic Autonomous Community and the savings bank Sa Nostra.
The white, concrete building has various halls, terraces and a restaurant. Part of it incorporates an old Medieval water tank, converted to an exhibition space for temporary exhibitions. From the top terraces there are good views over Palma, taking in Cathedral de Palma de Mallorca (La Seu) to the east and Castell de Bellver on Bosc de Bellver to the west.
Es Baluard opening times vary during the year, contact the museum for details.
