West Cape Lighthouse - FURTHER INFORMATION
West Cape Lighthouse - Innes National Park visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'West Cape Lighthouse' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from South Australia.
West Cape Lighthouse, as the name suggests, stands on West Cape in Innes National Park in South Australia. This picture shows more of the coastline around West Cape than the lighthouse itself. To the south lies Ethel Beach, and to the north is Podalowie Bay and, just offshore, South Islet and North Islet islands.
West Cape Lighthouse was built in the 1908's out of stainless steel. It is fully automated, standing at a height of 67m with a range of 22 nautical miles. The lighthouse can be viewd from West Cape car park, but is not open to the public. Over 40 ships have been lost along this stretch of Australian Coast and an interpretive trail from Stenhouse Bay has information boards describing them. The remains of one of the more famous wrecks, the 'Ethel', can still be seen on Ethel Beach.
West Cape Lighthouse is one of three within Innes National Park, the others being Cape Spencer Lighthouse and Peter Island Lighthouse.
