The Patio de los Arrayanes is one of the attractions in the Spanish Village (Pueblo Espanyol) in Palma. It is a replication of the Patio within the Alhambra fortress in Granada.
The original Alhambra Palace was built Yusuf I and Muhammed V, Sultan of Granada in about 1333, towards the end of Muslim rule in Spain. Alhambra means 'Red Fortress', and the name reflects the red brick used in the construction. It served as the residence of the Muslim court in Spain. Today, the Alhambra is one of the major tourist attractions in Granada, containing some of the finest examples of Moorish architecture and art. It is fitting that part of it, the Patio de los Arrayanes, is replicated in the Pueblo Espanyol on Mallorca.
