The Torre del Oro is one of the attractions in the Spanish Village (Pueblo Espanyol), the open air architectural museum in Palma. This is a replica of the original Torre del Oro in Seville.
The original Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold) was built at the beginning of the 13th century during the Almohad dynasty to protect and defend access up the Guadalquivir river. It formed one of the anchor points for running a chain across the mouth of the river to prevent ships entering Seville.
The tall tower to the northeast is the Torre de Sta Caterina. To the right of this is the Iglesia de Torralba Robota and then the tower of the Alhambra fortress.
