Upolu Point - Hawaii Island visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Upolu Point' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hawaii.

Upolu Point is the northernmost point in Hawaii Island, formed by an ancient lava flow from Kohala Mountain volcano. The point is next to Upolu Airfield and overlooks Mahukona Harbor. Beyond Upolu point is the Alenuihaha Channel which separates Hawaii Island from Maui.

Coatal trails lead from Upolu Point to two ancient native Hawaiian sites; the King Kamehameha I and also Mo'okini Heiau, a sacred place of worship dating back to 480 AD. Also nearby is Hawi town. From here the ring road turns inland around Pololu Valley and the nature reserved in Waipio Valley, which contain some of the most beautiful tropical scenery on the island.

Upolo Point is a minor tourist attraction on Hawaii Island. Because of it's remoteness, it is not as popular as Ka Lae (South Point) at the other end of the island.

Car: Upolu Point is 4 miles from Hawi and 53 miles north from Kailua. Take the 270 island ring road, turning north down Upolo Airport Road and proceed to the end.
Flight: Upolu Airport (IATA: UPP, ICAO: PHUP)
