At an altitude of 1800m in the Saastal Valley, Saas-Fee in Switzerland is recognized as one of the best ski resorts on earth. About 1,700 people live here full time, but in the winter ski season the population swells by several thousand as skiers flock to the slopes around the village. The village itself has hotels, ski chalets and hostels to suit almost all budgets. The best hotels have direct piste access.

Saas-Fee has 35 marked piste to cater for all levels of skier, covering almost 100 km of slopes. Saas-Fee is popular with both traditional skiers and snow boarders alike. Access to the Dom and Allalinhorn glaciers means that skiing is possible for up to 10 months of the year. Saas-Fee is part of the Saastal Ski Area, which also includes Saas Almagell and Saas Grund.

The Saas-Fee ski area is served by 23 Ski lifts, capable of moving 22,690 skiers or snowboarders per hour around the slopes. The region has 5 black runs (25km), 14 red runs (50km) and 13 blue runs (25km) providing excellent skiing for all abilities, especially the intermediate and expert skier. The highest lift reaches 3500m, and 24km of ski runs are also covered by artificial snow canons ensuring good skiing the whole season.

Within Saas-Fee, the skiing is split into three regions, Felskinn, the Plattjen and the Längfluh. Felskinn is served by the Alpin Express, the newest and most high tech of the ski lifts. This picture shows Panorama Bridge, which links the car part to the Alpin Express lift. Below it is an Alpine ravine, known as the Alpine Gorge, the 'Grand Canyon' of Saas-Fee, which links the village with Saas-Grund.
