Maitland Chatt Centre - FURTHER INFORMATION
Maitland Chatt Centre - Maitland visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Maitland Chatt Centre' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from South Australia.
Maitland is situated on a ridge in the heart of the Yorke Peninsula, 169 kilometres from Adelaide and 164 south of Port Pirie. Before the arrival of Europeans, the area was known to Aborigines as 'madu waltu' (white flint) and was called 'Maitland' in 1872 after Lady Jean Maitland. The town is laid out in a neat series of square grids surrounded by parkland, much like the center of Adelaide.
Maitland gets more rain than much other parts of the Yorke Peninsula, and is surrounded by some of the best barley growing land in South Australia.
Within Maitland is a National Trust museum and well preserved historic buildings with views over Spencer Gulf and Yorke Valley. The newly redeveloped Heart of Maitland complex features the Chatt Centre which provides tourist information, public internet, email facilities, photo download, printing, fax, copying and scanning services.
