Winspit lies on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset just south of Worth Matravers, a little east of Swanage. Here you will find Winspit Quarry and Winspit Beach. The quarry, now disused, was used before WWII when the quarried rock was loaded directly onto barges below the cliffs. During WWII, Winspit was used as a defensive site.Winspit is on private land, open to the public at their own risk. It is only accessible by foot from Worth Matravers village. It is much loved by children who clamber among the rocks and in the old quarry caves. Some of the cliffs are also used for climbing. Winspit has been used as a filming location for Dr Who in both the 'Underwater Menace' episode and also as the set for the planet Skaro in 'Destiny of the Daleks'. It was also used as planet Mecron II in an episode of Blake's 7.
Winspit is on the Southwest Coast Path, and part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The path down runs between two hills, known as East Man and West Man, terraced on their sides with ancient Lynchet Strips and both visible in this image. To the east the path continues to Seacombe Cliff and Dancing Ledge. To the west is St Aldhelm's Head and then Chapmans Pool. Beyond this is Kimmeridge Bay and Lulworth Cove.

Bus: Worth Matravers, Worth Matravers Post Office
Road: Worth Matravers 3.7 miles east of [[673,Swanage]] on the B3069 to Coombe Hill and then left down a country lane. It is 3.8 miles south of [[4638,Corfe Castle]].
Walk: Park at Worth Matravers and walk down.
