The beach at Winspit consists of boulders at the mouth of the stream running down Winspit Bottom and a seaweed covered ledge, exposed at low tide. Few people come down to the beach area, most play around the quarry, caves and cliffs.
Winspit lies between Seacombe Cliff and St Aldhelm's Head on the Southwest Coast Path near to Worth Matravers in Dorset. It is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and is very popular with walkers in the summer. Further afield lie Dancing Ledge, Chapmans Pool, Kimmeridge Bay and Lulworth Cove.
Winspit Quarry has been used as a filming location for 'Underwater Menace' Dr Who series and also as the set for Skaro in 'Destiny of the Daleks'. Before this it was the set for Mercon II in Blake's Seven.
