Singapore Zoo uses moats instead of bars to keep the animals and visitors apart, thus giving a much more natural feel to things. The zoo is on the norht shore of Seletar Reservior and currently covers 100 hectars. There are 80 different distinct exhibits giving home to over 242 species of animals. Over 40 of these are covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
Breeding programmes at the zoo help a number of endangered species including orangutans, Sumatran tigers, iguanas and sloth bears among others.
Some of the highlights of Singapore Zoo include the various feeding times and animal displays. It is possible to get a photograph standing next to the orangutans, or enter the Endangered Forest biodome and come face to face with a sloth.
Singapore Zoo is equally famous for the Night Safari. This is a unique safari park which for the first time anywhere in the world allows visitors to see the animals going about their nocturnal lives undisturbed using blue-lighting.
