Valloire is a small mountain village in the Rhône-Alpes in south-eastern France. It is best known for the Valloire-Galibier ski region at the base of the Col du Galibier mountain pass which connects Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and Briançon on the border of Savioe and Hautes-Alpes regions of France. The region is very popular for skiing in the winter, and in the summer Galibier Pass is the highest point on the Tour de France cycle race.

Skiing in Valloire-Galibier

The Valloire-Galibier Ski Resort is considered to be excellent for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowborders. It is ranked as good for experienced skiers. The region has:

• 34 Ski Lifts uplift 39,200 skiers per hour
• 78 marked pistes
• 6 Black ski runs
• 31 Red ski runs
• 25 Blue ski runs
• 31 Green ski runs

The highest lift in the resort tops out at 2600m and the highest vertical lift is 1170m. The hotels and the lowest lift are in the resort (1430m), providing good opportunities for door to door skiing from the hotels and apartments.

One cluster of ski pistes ascend the slopes of Thimel and La Setaz des Pres (2538m) to the south. Another, accessed by Cret de la Brive cable car, takes skiers up Le Crey du Quart (2534m). From the top of here skiers can also access the slopes of the Valmeinier at 1500 and Valmeinier at 1800 ski resorts.
