Monaco from Le Rocher - FURTHER INFORMATION
Monaco from Le Rocher - Monaco-Ville visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Monaco from Le Rocher' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Monaco.
Monaco-Ville is the oldest district of Monaco, built on le Rocher (the Rock), a picturesque, rocky promontory extending into the Mediterranean. This was chosen as the location for Palais Princier (Prince's Palace), the 13th century palace built for the Grimaldi family of Genoa and now an extensive museum. As this picture shows, the views from le Rocher over Port Hercule and north towards Monte Carlo are stunning.
Surrounding the palace, Monaco-Ville is still a medieval village made up almost entirely of pedestrian streets and passageways full of old buildings. There is a collection of hotels, restaurant and souvenir shops, but the site remains very picturesque. Aside from the palace, other attractions in Monaco-Ville include the Cathedral, Oceanographic Museum, City Hall, Saint Martin Gardens and the Fontvieille Harbour promenade.
