The Grand Veymont rises to 2341 meters making it the highest point of the Vercors massif in the Rhône-Alpes of southeastern France. The range is popular with walkers and climbers in the summer months, while the nearby region offers good skiing in the winter. Near to the Grand Veymont are various other peaks like Rocher de Séguret (2,051m), Roche Rousse (2,105m) and Pierre-Blanche (White Stone Summit) (2,106m).
Below and to the east of the Grand Veymont, at a height of 1200m is the small alpine village of Gresse-en-Vercors. The area is part of Vercors Regional Natural Park, and combines both traditional lifestyle with tourism. During the summer activities for visitors include trekking and walking, climbing, paragliding, and fishing in the various lakes. Car: Gresse en Vercors is 50km south of Grenoble on the A51 and mountain roads.
Walk: Le Grand Veymont is about 10km from the refuge at the beginning of the Hauts Plateaux du Vercors trail.
