Isère is a department in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. Centered around Grenoble, the terrain stretches east from the Rhone Valley, changing from plains to high mountains and deep, glacial valleys.

Tourism in Isère is mostly focussed around the natural landscape, though Grenoble itself has much to offer. Some of the top tourist attractions in the area include:

• Col du Galibier - dramatic mountain pass south of Grenoble near Valloire.
• Pelvoux Massif - probably the most dramatic range in France after the Mont Blancentury. Pelvoux Massif is a National Park with high peaks, glaciers and beautiful scenery. Highest peaks within the park include Ecrins (4,102m), the Meije (3,983m), the Ailefroide (3,953m) and Mont Pelvoux (3,946m)
• Le Grand Veymont - at 2350m, the highest point of the Vercors massif near Gresse-en-Vercors
• Pont d'Asfeld - dramatic, single span 40m bridge over the Durance river in Briançon.
• Dauphiné Route Napoléon - beautiful landscape and lakes on the Matésine plateau.
• Embrun - picturesque village built on a crag above the Durance with the 12th century Romanesque church of Notre-Dame.
• La Grave - mountain village at 1,526m in the upper valley of the Romanche. Good for walking, easy access to the Meije mountain group and several glaciers.
• Massif de Chamrousse - range of mountains (1,650-1,750m) with good winter and summer sports.
• Skiing - large, well known resorts like Alpe d'Huez, Valloire-Galibier and Les Deux Alpes as well as smaller resorts mostly used by locals.
• Temple d'Auguste et Livie - an impressive temple with its Corinthian columns in Vienne.
• Château du Touvet and Gardens - 500 year old house and gardens owned by the de Quinsonas-Oudinot family in Le Touvet, north of Grenoble
