St Francis of Assisi church (1869) and Area School (1877) in Blanche Terrace of Moonta. The nicely maintained school caters for Kindergarten to Year 12 students from Moonta and surrounding farms.

St Francis of Assisi Church and Area School - Further Information

St Francis of Assisi Church is the Catholic church in on the Yorke Peninsula. The church is over 140 years old, the foundation stone being laid by Bishop Shiel in July 1869.

Moonta Area School was built in 1877 by Rossiter & Davies and opened in 1878. Originally simply called 'Moonta School', it combined with The Primary and High Schools in 1978 to form an Are School. The school contains a community library.

Both these buildings stand on Blythe Street, the principle road bounding the eastern end of the central part of Moonta. Also on Blythe Street are Moonta Hotel and the Royal Hotel. From it George Street leads west to the Town Hall and Queen Square.
