Whyalla Wilson Park - FURTHER INFORMATION
Whyalla Wilson Park - Whyalla visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Whyalla Wilson Park' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from South Australia.
Wilson Park is 600 metres south of the Visitor Centre in Whyalla. Covering part of a hill on the east side of the town, Wilson Park has great views over the OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks and then on to Port Bonython and Point Lowly area further away.
The Park contains a painted and inverted 10m high ship's rudder, presented to the people of Whyalla in 1974 to mark the jubilee of the naming of the township of Whyalla. The rudder, seen in this virtual tour image, is decorated with an image of Hammock Hill, on which the town was founded.
Whyalla's past is also noted by the 2.5m Kedge anchor mounted in a landscpaed garden bed at the intersection opposite Wilson Park. This kind of anchor was used by early steamships to reposition themselves after berthing.
Wison Park is popular with locals, with free sheltered BBQs and picnic facilities, lawns, playground, 24hour toilets and plenty of shade. Next to the park is ample parking for cars, caravans and coaches.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
