Belém District is one of the most visited districts in Lisbon and contains many of the top monuments and tourist attractions. Many of the monuments reflect the Golden Age for Portugal during the era of the Great Discoveries in the 15th and 16th centuries when Portugal was a world dominant power.

Some of the highlights of the district include the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to Discoveries) and Torre de Belém (Tower of Belém), the Centro Cultural de Belém (Cultural Center of Belém) which is dedicated to the performing arts and music, and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Monastery of the Jerónimos).

This panorama shows Espelho de Àgua, the Docas do Bom Sucesso (Marina of Good Success), the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and a view over the straits to Almada. The 25th April Bridge is partially obscured by sailing ship masts.
