The Murinsel is a notable landmark and popular attraction in Graz. The restaurant was designed by Vito Acconci and built in 2003 when Graz became the European City for Culture. It is linked to either side of the Mur by footbridges.
The Murinsel is shaped like a shell, with a restaurant and cafe below a dome, next to which is an outdoor seating area in an amphitheatre. It is 50m long and 20m wide and able to hold 350 people.
Near to it on the left (west) bank of the Mur are Mariahilferplatz and the Kunsthaus Graz, while on the right (east) side is Palais Attems, also a popular tourist attraction..
