The Stadtpark park is one of the most important and largest open spaces in Graz. First opening in 1873, it covers land that had formed a glacis, or defensive bank, leading up to the Burg (old castle). Stadtpark is laid out in parts like an English Garden, with tree-lined avenues, ornamental plantations and a Stadtpark Fountain which is next to Forum Stadtpark which contains art exhibitions and a cafe. The old castle moats are filled with water in the summer months and contain fountains.

Stadtpark is next to the Burggarten and wraps round the eastern slopes of Schlossberg.
