Double Spiral Staricase - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

Panorama trying to give some perspective inside the Double Spiral Staircase in the Burg in Graz. This great stairway ascends 2 floors, but sadly leads nowhere and the walls are covered in graffiti at the top.

Double Spiral Staricase - FURTHER INFORMATION

Double Spiral Staricase - Graz visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Double Spiral Staricase' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Styria.

The Double Spiral Staricase is one of the notable sights in Graz. The stone staircase was built within the Burg (Castle) in 1499 in Gothic style, with two arms that spiral round meeting each other on each floor.

Because of this unusual interlocking design, the Double Spiral Staircase is sometimes known as the 'Eternity Staircase' or the 'Staircase of Reconciliation' as those going up each stairway part company to meet again further along.

The Double Spiral Staircase is found just inside the arched passageway which leads from the front courtyard to the inner courtyard of the Burg, which itself is next to the Burgtor gate and opposite the Cathedral and Mausoleum.
