KMUTNB stands for the 'King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok'. It was established in 1959 as the 'Thai-German Technical School' in co-operation with Germany. In 1971 it merged with Thonburi Technical College and was renamed the North Bangkok Campus of 'King Mongkut's Institute of Technology'. The college continued to grow, adding the following faculties between 1996-2003; Faculty of Industrial Technology and Management, Institute of Computer and Information Technology, Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Applied Art and Faculty of Agro-Industry.
The KMUTNB mission statements states that the university pursues 'a commitment to the development of human resources with proven excellence in the fields of science and technology at advanced levels and with a fair balance of knowledge and morality ; creating the capacity to innovate and improve appropriate applications, thereby assisting sustainable economic, social, and environmental development.'
