St Leonhardkirche Church - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama showing the inside of Leonhardkirche in Graz. The church is unusual in that there is a modern section with coloured glass walls added onto a much older church.

Leonhardkirche stands on Leonhardplatz, about 2.5km northeast of Hauptplatz in Graz. This is a late Gothic church with a Baroque facade. One of the most interesting aspects of the building is the octagonal modern altar area with coloured glass walls.
The first church on the site, dedicated to S. Lienhart, was erected in 1361. Much of the current building dates from 1433 and the church tower heightened in 617 to 1620. Until the 18th century the Leonhardkapelle was dedicated to both Leonhard and Maria.
The modern, eastern end was added in 1995 under the direction of ministers Franz finch and architect Manfred Fuchsbichler, creating a distinct, yet harmonious, 2 piece church. Next to the church is Leonhard cemetery.
