Murphys Haystack are pink Hiltaba granite inselbergs, estimated to be over 1,500 million years old. They have stood exposed on top of a hill near Murphy's sheep station for over 30,000 years and are named after Denis Murphy, who was born in Ireland on 25-Mar-1858 and emigrated to Australia in 1882.
Today, Murphys Haystacks are one of the noted tourist attractions in the region.
