Boca Raton - FURTHER INFORMATION

Boca Raton - Boca Raton visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Boca Raton' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Florida.

Boca Raton is the largest city between West Palm Beach and Pompano Beach, in Palm Beach County, Florida. The name of the city comes from the Spanish for 'Mouth of the Moose' which originally applied to a small cove further south near Miami, but was mistakenly moved north in the 19th century.

After WWII Boca Raton became the southern USA home of IBM and in 1967, before the I-95 connected the region to more northern states, they began building their massive complex here. By the 1980's the historic center of Boca Raton began to see some decay and in 1991 the old Boca Raton Mall was replaced by the new Mizner Park complex which has helped to rejuvenate the area.

For the visitor, one of the most notable features of Boca Raton is the lack of billboard advertising. The strict building code prohibits any billboard advertising within the incorporated area, which has a uniquely refreshing result among American cities. Many of the buildings reflect the Spanish heritage in architecture.
