Florence Cathedral is one of the top attractions in Florence (Firenze). One of the largest churches in Europe, and taking over 170 years to build. It is covered in polychrome green, white and pink marble in various patterns making the exterior truly stunning. The Cathedral is 153m long and 90m wide at the crossing. The base of the dome is 90m above ground level and the top of the cross on the dome is 114.5m.
Giotto's Campanile, the Bell Tower, stands next to the cathedral as a free-standing tower. This square tower is 14.45m wide on each base and 84.7m high. Like the Cathedral it is also decorated in polychrome marble. Viewing areas near the Giotto's Campanile and the offer stunning panoramic views over the rest of Florence.
The last building in the Piazza dell Duomo is the Baptistery of San Giovanni, not visible in this panorama, whose stunning mosaic ceiling draws thousands of visitors each year.
