Ponte Santa Amerigo Vespucci is one of the most modern bridges in Florence (Firenze). It spans the Arno river just downstream of the Pescaia S. Rosa slipway. The bridge was designed by Giorgio Giuseppe Gori, Enzo Gori, Ernesto Nelli and engineer Richard Morante and was built between 1955-57. The bridge has 3 spans and was designed to look like a ribbon linking the two banks. On the southern shore you can see the dome of San Frediano in Cestello Church (Chiesa di San Frediano in Cestello).
Just upstream from the bridge is the Pescaia S. Rosa slipway, and it is quite relaxing to stand and watch the waters tumbling over the weir. This slipway was built to ensure a constant provision of water to the water mills that used to line the Arno, long since removed. On the southern bank a path leads down to the base of the weir.
